Beautiful people of Papua New Guinea

A few years ago I packed up my life...I sold everything - my house in Hout Bay, my car, packed in my job, booked a round the world ticket and left Cape Town. When I flew out that night 6 years ago and I saw Table mountain for the last time I was uncertain if I would ever come back to this place - I had a tear in my eye but I was excited of what lay in front of me. My life dream was becoming a reality - to travel round the world.

After qualifying as a boat skipper I first sailed round the beautiful islands of PNG for a month. The islands we visited were off the beaten track in the sense that only a dozen people from the outside world would pass by on boats in a year. Needless to say I felt like a phenomenon when the islanders would sneak up to me and touch my skin and my hair - they had not seeing anything like me before. They were gentle souls, wholesome and forever giving.

They would give us the last of their precious beat up vegetables and fruit. Once we had 3 huge bunches of banana's hanging from the boat like majestic fruit chandeliers, only these you could eat and had great big hairy spiders living in them! I had tummy ache from eating a kilogram of banana's a day. We had banana's for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Banana muffin, fried banana's, grilled banana's, banana loaf...you catch my drift.

This collection of photo's shows how my trip was filled with happy, peaceful, inquisitive, playful, lively souls that opened my heart to the possibility of one love.
